Here are the summaries of our 3-part bible study exploration of the prophetic book Haggai.

Haggai 1:1–15

  • Situation: The post-exile Israelites were suffering lack, for building their own houses instead of God’s.
  • Main Point: When we obey the LORD of all due glory, instead of indulging in our own plans, He will be with us.
  • Purpose: Consider our ways and obey the LORD by continually fearing Him and building His house.

Haggai 2:1–9

  • Situation: The post-exile Israelites were discouraged that their new temple was far less glorious than the then-Solomon’s temple.
  • Main Point: The Creator God, who saved them before, promises to save them again, as He is with them through His Spirit.
  • Purpose: Know God, be strong and courageous, and press on in building God’s house.

Haggai 2:10–23

  • Situation: The first batch of post-exiles were dejected by the shoddy temple that they are laboring for.
  • Main Point: God requires consecrated hearts and hands to accomplish His kingdom purposes.
  • Purpose: Consecrate yourselves by turning to the LORD as you build His dwelling place on earth as it is in heaven.
